SpiceJet is an Indian low-cost airline headquartered in Gurugram, India. It was founded in 2005 and operates flights to over 60 domestic and international destinations. The airline has a fleet of Boeing and Bombardier aircraft and is known for its affordable fares and quality service.

In addition to passenger flights, SpiceJet also operates dedicated air cargo services and has a subsidiary company called SpiceJet Merchandise Pvt. Ltd, which manages the airline’s merchandise and ancillary businesses.

As of my knowledge cutoff in 2021, SpiceJet had been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic like many other airlines, but had resumed operations and was gradually increasing its flight frequencies.

Baggage Policy

 

Carry-on Baggage

SpiceJet allows passengers a maximum of 7kg of hand baggage with maximum total dimensions of 115cm on Boeing flights (108cm on Q400 flights). Passengers with infants are allowed to carry an extra 7kg of hand baggage.

Prohibited items cannot be carried in hand baggage, or it would be confiscated by airport security. This includes any fluid exceeding 100mls. Batteries should be stored in hand luggage due to health and safety regulations.

Checked Baggage

SpiceJet allows a piece of free checked baggage of 15kg for all passengers on domestic flights. If flying with a “hand baggage only” fare, there is no free checked baggage included. No checked baggage should exceed 158 in the sum of three dimensions (L+H+W).

Baggage allowance on international routes varies between 20kg to 30kg depending on the route. Please check your ticket for confirmation or check with our customer service team if you have booked with us. Details are also available via the spicejet.com.

Baggage weight would be checked at the airport check-in counters, any baggage exceeding 32kg would not be accepted by the airline due to International Health and Safety regulations. However, passengers can buy excess baggage when booking with Fastofly. Excess baggage can be added to the booking at checkout, please read our guide if unsure.

SpiceJet’s ticket structure is divided into three categories, SpiceSaver, SpiceMax and Business Class.

Economy Class

Economy Class Facilities

Economy represents the majority of SpiceJet’s seating. Meals, snacks and beverages can be brought for a small charge on domestic routes.

On International routes, a free meal would be provided to customers.

Economy Class Seating

The airline’s Boeing 737s are in a 3 x 3 configuration whereas the Q400 has a 2 x 2 configuration.

Premium Economy

SpiceMax is SpiceJet’s version of a Premium Economy service. Available on Domestic and International flights.

Premium Economy Facilities

All SpiceMax customers can enjoy Priority Boarding and check-in.

Premium Economy Seating

Extra Leg-Room lets you stretch out. On international flights, a free blanket and cushion with 4-way adjustable headrests are provided.

 

Food

 

Meal Options

SpiceJet provides a wide range of food options, from breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner. SpiceJet passengers can pre-book their meals up to 24 hours before departure and save money compared to the price onboard. To pre-order meals, view the selection for your flight under the ‘Manage My Booking’ section on the SpiceJet site. Traditional Indian and Asian meals can also be purchased in-flight, and the in-flight menu can be viewed online from the SpiceJet website.

Special Dietary Requirements

Passengers can choose between vegetarian/ non-vegetarian meal up to 6 hours before departure. On the pre-order section, passengers can also pre-order special meals such as Jain meals, Navratra meals, diabetic meals, gluten-free meals. These meals are only available from the pre-order feature, and must be made 24 hours before departure.

Drinks & Alcohol

Beverages can be purchased from the in-flight meal service. Available drinks include soft drinks such as juices, coca-cola, iced tea and water, but also hot drinks such as coffee and teas. Alcoholic beverages are also available to purchase, such as beers and spirits.

 

In-flight Entertainment & Wi-Fi

Passengers can access the airline’s in-flight entertainment system by connecting the Wi-Fi onboard. The in-flight entertainment system is called ‘SpiceScreen’, it has a range of movies, tv shows and kids channels to keep the boredom away during flight.

 

Check-In Information

 

Web Check-In

Online check-in can be completed on the SpiceJet website or on their mobile app. All passengers must web check-in one hour before the scheduled departure time on all domestic flights due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Web check-in is open when the booking is confirmed.

Please note that web check-in can only process 9 people per session. Passengers would be able to obtain the boarding passes once online check-in is completed.

Passengers who are eligible are recommended to check-in online as it would save queuing time at the airport. Passengers who don’t check-in online must check-in at the airport.

Airport Check-In

Domestic Flights: Airport check-in counters open two hours before departure and close 45 minutes before departure.

International Flights: Airport check-in counters open three hours before departure and close 60 minutes before departure. However, check-in closes 75 minutes before departure for flights from Dubai and Kabul.

Please report to check-in on-time as the airline reserves the rights to deny boarding. At Fastofly, we recommend passengers to arrive at the airport two hours before the scheduled departure time. Upon arrival, passengers are advised to proceed to the airline’s designated check-in area. Check the departure information board or seek airport staff assistance if unsure.

Airline Alliance

The Indian carrier does not belong to any airline alliances but it has codeshare agreements with Emirates and Gulf Air. Passengers will be able to access a wider international network with these airlines.

As of October 2020, SpiceJet flies to 59 domestic Indian destinations including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and more. The airline is also launching new international services to London from Mumbai and Delhi on December 6, 2020, making it the first low-cost airline to fly the route.

SpiceJet is based at Indira Gandhi International airport (DEL) which is the primary airport in the capital of Delhi. It is the busiest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic serving around 67 million passengers a year with three runways and three terminal buildings. As of November 2020, SpiceJet operates a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, Q400 and de Havilland Canada Twin Otter seaplanes aircraft. The airline flies many varients of the Boeing 737 including -900 ER, -900, MAX 8, -800 and -700.

To accommodate the London- India route, the airline is also leasing the Airbus A330neo from Hi Fly.
