About

Cubana de Aviacion, also known as Cubana, is the national airline of Cuba. The airline was founded in 1929 and is based in Havana, Cuba. It operates a fleet of aircraft that includes Boeing 737s, Tupolev Tu-204s, and ATR 42s, and serves a variety of domestic and international destinations across the Americas, Europe, and Africa.

Cubana has a rich history, having played a key role in the development of air transportation in Cuba and the Caribbean region. The airline has also been involved in a number of important events in Cuban history, including the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Despite its long history and reputation, Cubana has faced a number of challenges over the years, including financial difficulties and safety concerns. In 2018, one of the airline’s Boeing 737 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Havana, killing 112 people on board.

In addition to its safety record, Cubana has also faced challenges related to its finances. The airline has struggled with high operating costs and a lack of access to spare parts and maintenance services due to the U.S. embargo on Cuba.

Despite these challenges, Cubana has continued to operate and has made efforts to improve its safety record and financial situation. The airline has implemented a number of measures to improve safety, including increasing its training programs for pilots and mechanics, and it has also taken steps to modernize its fleet by acquiring new aircraft.

Cubana has also made efforts to expand its network of destinations and increase its international presence. The airline has signed codeshare agreements with a number of international airlines, which allows it to offer flights to more destinations around the world.

In conclusion, Cubana de Aviacion is a historic and important airline in the Caribbean region. While the airline has faced a number of challenges over the years, it continues to operate and has made efforts to improve its safety record, modernize its fleet, and expand its network of destinations. Cubana remains a key player in the Cuban aviation industry, and it will likely continue to play an important role in the region’s air transportation infrastructure for years to come.

The airline has codeshare agreements with the following airlines: AeroCarribean, Aeroflot, Air EuropaBlue Panorama Airlines, Conviasa and Lacsa.

Fleet

Cubana de Aviación has a fleet of narrow body and wide body aircraft from manufacturers such as Antonov, ATR, Illyushin and Tupolev. Cubana’s fleet is interesting for a national carrier in the fact that it has never used any aircraft from the major manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus.
